TAX office staff in Portsmouth are striking today as part of a national dispute.

The one-day walkout could affect up to 20,000 employees working in call centres and face-to-face enquiry offices across the UK.

It is due to year-long call handling trials using two private companies, Sitel and Teleperformance, due to start next month in two enquiry centres in Cumbria and Scotland. As a result the deadline for online self-assessment tax returns has been extended by two days.
