Sara Pollard, director of Free From temptation Ltd, praises a fellow Fareham baker for using his talent to raise money for charity

We love to support our fellow Fareham bakers, particularly when they raise money for charity and this story is simply wonderful.

Local teacher, Rob Baker-Gall – the mastermind behind Mr Baker’s Cakes – is raffling one of his amazing cakes to raise money for the children and families of Ocean Ward, a specialist unit providing paediatric cardiac care at Southampton General Hospital.

Rob’s Harry Potter cake recently caused a bit of a stir online when it generated a whopping 41,000 likes and 11,000 comments.

As a result his Facebook page likes rocketed from about 2,000 to 8,800 virtually overnight.

Rob wanted to use this extra attention to do something positive or, as he terms it, ‘bake a difference’.

To be in with a chance of getting your hands on this stunning rich chocolate Sorting Hat cake, all you need to do is visit his Just Giving page at justgiving.com/mrbakerscakeshp.

Entry to the raffle costs £2, with each additional £2 donation counting as an additional entry. The competition will run until October 6.

Families of Ocean Ward is a registered charity formed by volunteer parents of children with cardiac disease who rely on the services provided by Ocean Ward and its team of specialist and dedicated staff.

The support they provide is emotional and financial.

Their aim is to bridge the gap between home and hospital by putting families in touch with others whose child has a similar condition and experiences similar difficulties.

This is especially important as the paediatric cardiac unit in Southampton treats children from not only within the local area but also as far afield as Devon and Cornwall.

In addition to providing families with support and information, a large proportion of their funds are used to assist families during long stays on the ward, ensuring children have access to recreational activities, helping special occasions feel truly special and purchasing equipment to assist families caring for their children at home.

Rob is the proud winner of last years Great Gluten-Free Bake Off.

This year’s competition will be held on October 23 at the performance podium in Fareham town centre.
