Pre-school to support Blue Day with lots of fun activities

Little Admirals is supporting the fundraising event tomorrow by dressing in blue and holding blue-themed activities.

The children at the pre-school, off Dundas Lane, in Portsmouth, will have their faces painted and make Pompey flags.

And they will decorate biscuits with blue icing and sweets and make pictures.

Siani Marks, from the pre-school, said: ‘We like taking part in Blue Day because we are a charity ourselves and we like to support others.

‘We want to help them raise as much money as possible.

‘The children like taking part and have fun with all the activities we do.

‘Everything we do is blue and they love that.’

Blue Day raises money for the Tom Prince Cancer Trust which was started in memory of Pompey fan Tom Prince.

He died from osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, on the eve of his 16th birthday in 2004.

His parents Adele and Clinton started the trust when he died with the aim of raising £1m.

In 2008 when Pompey reached the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium, the first ever Blue Day, supported by The News, was held.

A second was held weeks later when Pompey reached the final against Cardiff.

Since then, Blue Day has been held on the Friday before Pompey’s final home game of the season.

Siani added: ‘We explain to the children about Blue Day and why we take part every year.

‘It is very important for them to get that message and have that understanding.’

The Prince family is hoping to reach the £1m target with this year’s Blue Day. So far, £989,000 has been raised.
