THE president of the worldwide Mothers’ Union will visit Portsmouth next month.

More than 800 members of the Portsmouth Area Mothers’ Union have invited Rosemary Kempsell – who leads 4 million women all over the world – to see the work they are doing in the city.

She will arrive in Portsmouth on April 17 and stay for four days, before visiting other union branches across South East Hampshire.

Janet Stemp, finance co-ordinator for the group, said Ms Kempsell will be shown the projects being worked on in Portsmouth.

She said: ‘One project run by Portsmouth Mothers’ Union is a week’s holiday for families currently under stress.

‘The families have full board at a centre in Sussex with activities and outings organised by volunteers. Portsmouth members have pledged to raise upwards of £14,000 for this year’s August holiday.’

The visit will end with a service at Portsmouth Cathedral led by the Anglican Bishop of Portsmouth, the Rt Rev Christopher Foster, on April 20.
