Gerard Beauvoisin has run 24 times and has battled throat cancer too.

The 54-year-old said: ‘I have been running for the last 24 years and I was invited here to share all my memories.

‘For a lot of us we discussed last year’s race and the wind.

‘We also exchanged training ideas because a lot of us are also running this year.’

Guest speakers included Charlotte Purdue who came third in last year’s race, former Southampton manager Lawrie McMenemy and seafront manager David Evans.
