LETTER OF THE DAY: Why tear up our Peace Garden?

Demonstrators are getting ready to march through central Portsmouth in response to government cuts.

The event will begin with a gathering of protesters outside the university library in Cambridge Road next week.

They will then walk roughly one-and-a-half miles, on a route taking them through Hampshire Terrace, Elm Grove, Fratton Road and Guildhall Square.

Organiser John Woods, from Portsmouth Against Cuts Together, said he expects a 'couple of hundred' marchers.

The demonstration begins at 12.30pm on Saturday, January 15.

It follows a 250-strong demonstration in October and an anti-cuts Christmas carol service last month. For more, contact Mr Woods on 07921 775828.
