Pupils take centre stage at theatre

GROUNDLINGS Theatre will provide children with an opportunity to experience the magic of the theatre this summer.

The theatre on Kent Street, Portsea, will again welcome school children for its annual summer school, on August 3

Students will gain experience both on and off the stage, learning about set and costume design, lighting and on stage performance.

Artistic director of Groundlings Theatre, Richard Stride, wants students to use this week-long experience to build their confidence, learn new skills and mostly have fun behind the scenes of a theatre.

Mr Stride said: ‘The summer school is a fantastic place for anyone of any ability and experience to come along and learn about theatre.

‘It’s also great to see people who have never acted before coming along to try something new.’

The week will conclude with the students displaying a short performance on August 8, during the theatre’s Umbrella Festival.
