The service took place in the atrium and in attendance were many representatives of the medical staff and the Portsmouth hospital’s chief executive Mark Cubbon.

Wreaths were laid at the memorial by serving officers in the armed forces, and a speech was given by DOCN Major Maloney.

Speaking about the ceremony, Mr Cubbon said: ‘It’s particularly important to this organisation because of the long-standing history we have with the military.’

Patients and medical staff stood in silence to pay their respects as the Last Post was played.
