THOUSANDS of pupils across Havant are gearing up for their own Olympics-style event.

Training for the Havant Rotary School Games is well under way with pupils from 48 schools across the borough competing in heats at their own schools, selecting teams to take part in the Games in June.

Shirley Varnish, Havant Rotary president, said: ‘It’s going to be brilliant.

‘It will be by far the largest and all-embracing inter-school sports event ever held in the borough.’

June will be packed full of activities building up to the school run at Staunton County Park on June 24.

Five days of competition will be held at the Mountbatten Centre and other major sports venues from Monday, June 25 to Friday, June 29th.

Each school will hold its own opening ceremony. And the whole family can take part in taster sessions in more than 20 different sports.
