Racing superstar will lead cyclist charity ride to marines museum

The ex-Formula One driver is starting the first part of the charity ride, arriving at the Royal Marines Museum tomorrow afternoon.

The ride, called Youngs Halow250, runs from Friday until Sunday and covers 250 miles in 48 hours across two countries.

Mr Hill is patron of the organisation.

Halow250 organiser George Willis said: ‘We are incredibly excited to be setting off for the fifth time on this unique cycling challenge.

‘A total of 110 participants will gather at the Royal Marines Museum on Friday to celebrate the triumphs of the first 82 miles of this 250-mile challenge.

‘We are delighted to have raised such a fantastic sum for the halow project charity over our five years – close to £400,000 and still climbing.

‘This is a tough but rewarding weekend that challenges all of our riders.

‘The slow overnight ferry crossing from Portsmouth allows participants to get some much-needed rest.

‘The route from St Malo to Caen is a beautiful one but gives the riders a real challenge – tried and tested, it just works really well.”

Cyclists will set off from London before coming to the museum at Eastney, Portsmouth, for the first leg of the cycle.

They will then head to France to travel from St Malo to Caen before returning to Guildford, the home of the halow project.

The project is a charity supporting young people with a learning disability to live as independently as they can.
