Railway bridge work in Portsmouth completed

COMPLETION of work on a new railway bridge has been welcomed.

The new 88-tonne bridge on Burnaby Road, in Portsmouth, was put in place last week in a £2.7m project by Network Rail.

Fifty engineers worked to replace the old 142-year-old structure.

Stuart Kistruck, director of route asset management for the Wessex route, said: ‘This crossing is an important part of our network. I’m pleased we have been able to put in a new bridge to support those journeys for many years to come.’
