Recalling the busiest junction in Portsmouth

In this photograph we see what I consider to be the busiest location in Portsmouth at one time.

The junction of Highland Road, Eastney Road, Cromwell Road and Henderson Road, Eastney

It is at the junction of four highways – Highland, Eastney, Cromwell and Henderson Roads in Eastney. It is also the location for the bus depot just out of sight to the left and one of the highest points on Portsea Island.

All day long there were trolley and petrol buses in and out of the depot and buses en-route to their destinations.

This was also the location for the ‘roundabout in the sky’, as there was a large turning circle for the trolleybuses to use.
