A YOUNG Guide leader from North End was rewarded for her outstanding contribution to charity by receiving the Queen’s Guide Award.

Leader of 31st Portsmouth Guides Fiona Cobb, 27, was presented with the award by Baroness Janet Royall and Girlguiding UK’s Chief Guide Gill Slocombe – herself a Queen’s Guide – at a ceremony in the House of Lords.

It was in recognition of her volunteer work at an orphanage in South Africa.

Fiona said: ‘My trip to South Africa was truly amazing, I got to meet some friends for life, and it was such a rewarding experience volunteering at an orphanage. It’s something I have always wanted to do and guiding gave me the opportunity to do it.’

She was one of just 20 young women across Britain to receive the award for taking part in projects that develop personal skills and outdoor pursuits.
