A MUSIC festival has notched up record ticket sales.

More than 20,000 have been sold for the Wickham Festival, which opened last night with a performance from Jools Holland.

The total marks the most tickets the four-day event has ever sold. There will be sets by KT Tunstall, the Proclaimers and the Levellers over the weekend.

Organiser Peter Chegwyn said: ‘We’re delighted with the record ticket sales which should make a fantastic atmosphere for what we expect to be our biggest and best event yet. We have a terrific bill.

‘Even during the bad weather our sales remained steady but they have rocketed during the recent sunshine.’

And he added that precautions have been put in case, even if it does rain. He said: ‘The forecast looks good but even if it does rain, we have a big top which will keep more than 3,000 fans warm and dry.’

Day and evening tickets are still available.
