Rev Paul Gully, rector of Farlington, is looking forward to the new Build@Church initiative starting this weekend
I’m really excited about a new fun and creative activity for families to explore Bible stories and prayer using Lego and Duplo.
Build@Church starts this Saturday at the Church of the Resurrection, Penrhyn Ave, Drayton between 2pm and 4pm.
I don’t know about you but I love building things out of Lego.
It doesn’t matter how old you are, there is something about Lego and Duplo which can capture your imagination.
Before I became a vicar I used to teach craft and design technology at secondary schools.
It was one of my favourite subjects at school too, so I guess building has always been a big part of my life.
At Build@Church we will start by hearing the story of Noah’s Ark and then we will ask people to build something in response to that story using the Lego and Duplo bricks.
It might be that families want to recreate the story together using the bricks and mini figures.
Or they might want to create something which sums up what that story meant to them.
It’s totally up to them.
I’m looking forward to seeing what people make and I’ve already started to think about what I’m going to build.
After that we will pray using the Lego bricks.
One of the prayers will involve giving everyone a brick, asking them to count the number of bumps on it and then to think about that number of people or situations that either need God’s help or that they would like to thank God for.
We will then share tea and cake together.
It’s all free but donations would be welcomed towards the cost of the food.
Or if you would like to bring along a cake to share you’re very welcome to do so.
After Saturday, we will meet on the second Saturday of every month except August when there will be no meeting.
We would welcome donations of new or used Lego and Duplo bricks so do bring those along with you too if you’d like to.
