Formerly the Moonlit Memories Meander and now renamed the Starlit Walk, the event encourages families to join in a stroll around Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and the naval base.

The event, which takes place in the October half-term, has proved popular over the last six years, raising thousands of pounds to support people living in Portsmouth and south-east Hampshire affected by life-limiting illnesses.

The walk starts at 6.30pm and goes past HMS Victory which is illuminated, into Portsmouth Naval Base and back to Boathouse No. 7 where all children receive a medal, snack and drink.

For more of a challenge, there is a choice to walk the one-and-a-half-mile route twice.

Participants also have the opportunity to light a candle in St Ann’s Church, in the naval base, in memory of someone special and to make a memory star to place on the memory board.

Teresa Jeffery, in-memory events fundraiser at The Rowans Hospice, in Purbrook, said: ‘Children love this event and so do all the volunteers who help.

‘It has a great atmosphere with music and entertainment at the start and en route.

‘Everyone is invited to dress up in something shiny, sparkly or bright and to make and decorate a mask if they wish.’

It costs £5 to register a child and an accompanying adult can walk for free.
