Have your say

FOR the second year running, the YOUdecide fund has been awarded £12,000 by Hampshire County Council’s ‘Have Your Say’ grant.

It aims to involve local people in how public monies should be spent in their local community.

The scheme is run by the Gosport Community Safety Partnership and is now in its fourth year.

Applications are being invited by any community or voluntary group or individual for projects that aim to make their community in Gosport a safer, better place to live and the deadline for completed forms is Friday, September 27.

Those projects that meet the criteria will be invited to the Decision Day, which will be held at Thorngate Halls on Saturday October 19.

Arrive from midday with a prompt 1pm start.

Residents of Gosport are invited to come along to the Decision Day where they can look at the project displays in the market place before settling down and listening to the Dragons’ Den style pitches of the bidders.

Each of the projects has three minutes to convince the audience why their project deserves a share of the cash.

Once all of the bidders have given their pitch, the audience score each of the projects between one and 10 based on how deserving the project is – then points are added up and winners are announced on the day!

Since 2010, Gosport residents have awarded £78,000 worth of public money to 41 local projects through Decision Day voting events.

Decision Day in November 2012 saw funding awarded to 6th Gosport Scout Group towards a new roof for their scout hut, a support group for parents of autistic children and the recently held community event Fortonfest.

Applications already received include for a music project in Rowner and much more, see
