Residents hold clean-up

LETTER OF THE DAY: Underlying the housing crisis is the rocketing price of building land

MEMBERS of the community pulled together to clean up a square in Portsmouth.

Along with local housing associations First Wessex, Home Group and Radian, residents organised for a skip to be delivered to April Square in the city centre on Saturday and Sunday. Neighbours used the skip to get rid of their old unwanted furniture, while cutting back trees, litter-picking and generally cleaning the area. Lauren Taylor, trainee neighbourhood manager at First Wessex, said: ‘Fly-tipping is a recurring problem in this area and I hope that organising regular clean-up days will make a real difference in tackling it.’

Another similar event is to be organised by the group at a later date.
