Review: The Nutcracker at Titchfield Festival Theatre, Titchfield

Have your say

This is a fun-filled, family pantomime and is loosely based on the famous story of Christmas Eve.

It blends several of the songs and dances from the renowned ballet by Tchaikovsky with modern favourites, such as Everything is Awesome from The Lego Movie.

The cast are a mix of youth and experience, some as young as 10.

Stand-out performers were Kristian Fraser and Harvey Hill.

Kevin Fraser was also a memorable panto dame. As Nanny Plum he donned a variety of wondrous wigs and inappropriate outfits, while balancing on some impressive high-heeled shoes.

The younger members of the cast clearly enjoyed their perfomance and managed to outshine the adults on several occasions.

The fairy dancers were excellent and their routines well-received by the, sadly, sparse audience.

There is some real talent on stage here and this show would benefit greatly from a full house.

I was pleased, too, with the way the cast ad-libbed and smiled through some small technical difficulties; the unexpected jokes got some big laughs.

Until December 19.
