Children heading back to school will benefit from an enhanced school nursing service provided by Hampshire County Council.
The authority has introduced the revised service to specifically support the physical and emotional resilience of children and young people.
The council’s executive member for health and public health, Councillor Patricia Stallard, said: ‘Providing a focused service to support vulnerable older children is vital in helping to avoid more costly and intrusive interventions later on in life.
‘Our key aim is to ensure that it’s not only teachers who know how to contact the service, but that children and young people are able to get in touch with the school nursing service direct.’
Since 2013 it has been the duty of the local authority to provide a range of specialist public health services for people aged between 5–19 years old.
