Reward offered as Pod the peacock is still on the run

IT'S THE case of the Pea without the Pod as the hunt for a remaining runaway peacock continues.

Now a reward has been offered for the safe capture of Pod, the rogue bird who is still missing, after his brother Pea was caught and returned home last month.

The two male birds had been causing trouble together in Horndean for weeks and were seen on roofs and trees around the village.

Matt Parker, 29, and his partner Kat Hooker, 27, got in touch with The News after they spotted the birds in Acorn Drive, part of a new estate in Horndean.

Both birds were eventually caught in a resident’s strawberry cage at Havant Road, as it appeared they couldn’t resist the temptation of the growing produce.

But lonesome Pod is still missing in action after he managed to escape, leaving partner-in-crime Pea behind. He has since been safely reunited with owner Kim O’Brien.

Kim, who lives at Blendworth House, in Blendworth, near Horndean, said: ‘I’m offering a reward of £50 to anyone who can capture Pod.

‘I just want my peacock back healthy and alive and the longer he’s out the less chance I have.’

Kim has had her peacocks for two years and said they are very tame.

She hand-feeds her birds and suggested that Pod may be enticed with food.

She explained: ‘A lady caught Pea (pictured left) in her strawberry nets. You can’t really get peacocks in the open, you need to catch them in an enclosed area.’

She added: ‘Pea is fine, I put him in a pen and he is getting used to being back home again. But he misses his brother Pod.’
