A RIDING charity has received thousands of pounds to help raise its profile.

Recently-established Riding for the Disabled welcomed former mayor Councillor Susan Bayford and Fareham Borough Council leader Councillor Sean Woodward to their stables in Shedfield.

During their visit, the councillors handed over a cheque of £3,500 which was raised through the Mayor’s Charity when Cllr Bayford held the title last year.

Shirley Harris, from the Shedfield Riding Stables on Botley Road, said: ‘We are trying to raise our profile locally to enable more disabled people, especially in the Fareham area, to be aware that they can take up riding.

‘It is a fantastic sport for people with disabilities.

‘It helps them gain strength, confidence and enjoy some social interaction too.’
