PORTSMOUTH’S RNLI lifeboat station is to host a fundraising run next week.

The 10k run event takes place on October 7 and will start and finish at the lifeboat station on Southsea seafront, and is organised by Believe and Achieve personal trainers.

The route runs along the Esplanade, all the way up to the Pyramids Centre, and is considered an ideal way to warm up for the Great South Run on October 27.

It is the first of runs organised by the two organisations over the next few months.

The organisers are inviting people of all running abilities from across the city to take part.

The runs include chip timing, winners’ trophies and medals for everyone who takes part. The run starts at 10.30am.

Entry for adults is £13 and £15 on the day, and £10 and £12 on the day for under-16s

Other events this season include the popular Santa 5 and 10k runs, and the RNLI Portsmouth Coastal full and half-marathons.

The Southsea lifeboat station is one of more than 140 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK. It depends solely on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service.
