A LEADING seaman in electronic warfare is the first to be presented with the top student award since 2012.

James Hick, who is based at HMS Collingwood was presented with the award by the vice president of the Association of Old Crows, Chris Howe MBE.

Mr Hick was nominated for the award as acknowledgement of his continuous and exceptional knowledge in electronic warfare.

He also showed overall professionalism and ability, which was instantly recognised by his peers from the beginning of his course.

The award is only allocated to those who show outstanding individuality on the petty officers electronic warfare qualification course.

Mr Hick said: ‘It has been an intense few months of study that has enabled me to lead a department when I go back to sea.

Mr Hick was also presented with a young executive package from Systematic which provides software for the Royal Navy and NATO as well as the tri-services electronic warfare centre.
