Royal Navy frigate escourts Chinese warship through the English Channel

A ROYAL Navy frigate has escorted a Chinese warship through the English Channel.

HMS Somerset followed the Chinese vessel Xiangtan on her way to the North Sea.

Defence secretary Michael Fallon said: ‘The UK enjoys positive relations with China and the navy has provided a secure escort.’

Commanding officer of the Plymouth-based Type 23, Commander Michael Wood said the act was a ‘routine’ operation for the navy.
