The palace has agreed to Princess Royal Jetty as the new name for the berth at Portsmouth Naval Base, currently known as Middle Slip Jetty.

Naval base commander, Commodore Jeremy Rigby was delighted by the approval and said it sent an ‘important message’ that the naval base was ‘moving into a new and exciting era.’

Work is still under way to reinforce and upgrade the jetty in preparation for the arrival of the 65,000-tonne carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth early next year.

It’s hoped The Princess Royal will formally name the jetty in a ceremony later this year.
