A SEASIDE show is set to return to Southsea next month.

The Rural and Seaside Show will take place over the next bank holiday weekend from Saturday, May 3 to Monday, May 5.

The event will run from 10am until 5pm each day.

The family-friendly event offers a village by the sea with a programme of events for people to enjoy.

It includes terrier racing, sheep herding demonstrations, classic cars and heavy horse displays in the arena.

There will also be a craft marquee, children’s rides and donkey rides.

And there will be traditional Punch and Judy shows, beach volleyball, basket weaving, ferret racing and hula hooping.

David Evans is the seafront manager at Portsmouth City Council.

He said: ‘The Rural and Seaside show is a fantastic event, which celebrates the city’s traditional seaside roots.

‘It’s part of the council’s plan to bring more and better events to our city.

‘I hope lots of visitors and residents will take advantage of this free, fun bank holiday event and also enjoy many of the other attractions.’

People will also get the opportunity to take part in the village Olympics which will include a welly-throwing competition, tug-of-war and a bucking bronco.

There will be food on offer from refreshment stalls and from the Seaside Inn village pub.
