PUBLIC access to a stunning beauty spot must be maintained, council officers have said.
The vow from Chichester District Council comes as plans are being devised to protect East Head, at West Wittering, a sand dune feature under constant threat of coastal erosion.
David Lowsley, senior engineer, said: ‘Our aim is to make sure that public access to the spit is maintained and that the risk of a permanent tidal breach is reduced.
‘We are committed to making sure that there is no tidal breach. It is clear that the best way of achieving this is to encourage natural defences to emerge to protect East Head. As a group we will be closely monitoring the process.’
