PARENTS and families are being invited to get a free car seat check.

The event, called Fit it Right, is being run jointly by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and Hampshire’s Road Safety Team.

It takes place at Tesco Extra, Solent Road, Havant, on Thursday, July 14, from 10am to 4pm.

Watch manager Gary Elston, who is also the road safety liaison officer for the fire service, said a simple check can help save young lives.

‘It’s important that your child restraint fits well,’ he said.

‘It only takes a few minutes to complete, but checking the fit of your child’s car seat regularly could save their life or protect them from serious injury.

‘Our findings during the car seat checks in 2010 were that only one in five was fitted correctly, and 43 per cent were not tight enough.’

No booking is required, and free advice is given on the day.
