Scores of classic cars take part in annual cavalcade

The event is organised by the mayor of Havant, who waves a flag to start the procession, to raise money for charity.

Cars, motorbikes and commercial vehicles that pre-dated 1989 assembled at the Public Service Plaza car park in Havant from 9am yesterday, before they set off on a procession through the countryside.

The run passed along the top of Portsdown Hill, before finishing at Fort Purbrook around midday, where they went on show so that people could admire their beauty, with entertainment provided by The Stokes Bay Strummers Ukulele Group.

This year the parade was raising money for mayor Marjorie Smallcorn’s chosen charities – Footprints – Down Syndrome Support, Raynaud’s and Scleroderma Association and The Rowans Hospice.

Cllr Smallcorn said: ‘It was fantastic. We had more than 170 entries, it was brilliant.

‘I even had a ride in a 1924 open-topped Austin.

‘Every year this event gets a little bit bigger. It was incredible.’
