Scouts say thanks for help to do their hut up

A CELEBRATION was held to mark a Scout troop raising more than £20,000 to refurbish its headquarters.

The 3rd Portchester Scouts efforts were matched by Fareham Borough Council, which gave £20,000 towards the hut, on the corner of Castle Street and White Hart Lane, in Portchester.

The mayor of Fareham Mike Ford, Adam Jollans, county commissioner for Hampshire Scouts, along with 70 guests and other councillors, were thanked at an event at Cobham Hall, Portchester, on Sunday, March 13.

A painting of HMS Portchester was given to the council as a token of thanks.

It took the Scouts more than 10 years, along with the goodwill of many volunteers, to raise the money.

The latest work has seen the kitchen and toilets upgraded to include disabled facilities but more fundraising is needed for a new floor and lockers for the main hall.
