SEA defences close to the Pyramids Centre in Southsea have collapsed.

Barriers have been put up at the site near Clarence Esplanade warning people to stay away. A further investigation is expected to take place tomorrow

Now, the leader of Portsmouth City Council has urged people to take care following the damage which occurred following wet and windy conditions over the Christmas period.

Councillor Donna Jones said: ‘The whole of this area needs improvement firstly to improve the infrastructure that’s there and secondly to improve the flood defences as the water level rises in years to come.

‘This is a concern. Colas have been out and put barriers up to prevent people from walking along that part of the promenade.

‘I would urge people to take care when they are walking or cycling.’
