THE Portsmouth skyline has been covered in a thick blanket of sea fog.

The fog has travelled inland and is expected to be around until tomorrow morning.

Weather experts say it is not linked to the wave of polluted air which spread across the region last week and prompted health warnings for vulnerable people.

It followed a similar warning in March when smog could be seen over Portsmouth, after local pollution combined with a toxic cloud drifted over from Paris.

Met Office weather forecaster Helen Roberts said: ‘At this time of year when we have had the long winter months, the sea temperatures are at their lowest point.

‘When you have warmer air over a cooler sea, it’s just the moisture in the air condensing out.

‘It looks as if it will clear away quite quickly, and that should be it.’
