Within hours, but 340 miles apart, two camera enthusiasts both found a picture had been ‘hijacked’ by a feathered intruder as they took shots of the crack RAF display team.

The first seagull to ‘bomb’ the Red Arrows seized his moment at Southsea as Matthew Hooper Witts took pictures of the Friday lunchtime display kick-started the America’s Cup Portsmouth series.

Just hours later, the Red Arrows were at the Sunderland International Airshow for an evening performance where Wanda Stockdale clicked the shutter only to discover that a Sunderland seagull had emulated his Hampshire cousin!

So, if you ever take a picture of the Red Arrows, it might well be worth remembering the old adage - Watch the birdie!
