EMERGENCY services carried out an early morning search after a naked man was seen running along a foreshore.
A large-scale search started at 3.17am this morning when a member of the public called 999 after spotting the man near Hill Head Sailing Club, in Cliff Road.
Firefighters from Fareham fire station, the ambulance service, police and the coastguard scoured the area but found nothing.
The search was called off at around 7am this morning.
Watch manager Steve Bint said: ‘It was a water rescue but it turned out to be a false alarm.
‘We had a lot of resources. Nobody was found.
‘People had seen someone running along the foreshore.’
A team from the coastguard had searched the waterfront as firefighters used their water rescue boat.
Hamble Lifeboat also joined the search.
