Second splash pool is forced to close

GOSPORT Splash Pool was closed for part of yesterday while staff tried to solve an issue with chlorine levels.

Gosport Borough Council said on Twitter yesterday morning that the pool, in Stokes Bay, would be closed until further notice.

In a statement it said: ‘Splash Park is closed until further notice due to technical issues. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.’

The pool was reopened later yesterday afternoon.

The announcement came after temperatures reached 20C for the second week in succession, making it one of the warmest periods of the year so far.

Earlier yesterday a Gosport Borough Council spokesperson said: ‘We’re very sorry we’ve had to close the splash park, due to a problem with chlorinating the water.

‘We’re waiting on a delivery and as soon as it arrives we’ll re-open the park.

‘We’d like to thank everyone for their patience.’

The pool was the second in the Portsmouth area to close in recent days, after the Hilsea splash pool was shut.

Portsmouth City Council said the pool had been vandalised over the bank holiday weekend, with damage to the filters and fittings.

The pool reopened to the public yesterday.
