A silver lining at dog walk in Lucinda's memory

Lucinda Norris tragically took her own life in 2014, at the age of 22, after her partner lost his battle with cancer.

Since then, parents Angela Glassby and Simon Norris have been campaigning to raise awareness of youth suicides.

Yesterday’s event, which was also done in Lucinda’s memory, has raised almost £1,500 for PAPYRUS – the national charity for the prevention of young suicide.

The event saw around 30 people turn up for the walk at Queen Elizabeth Country Park in Horndean yesterday morning, many of whom had their dog in tow.

Angela Glassby, Lucinda’s mother, says that the day was a touching tribute to her daughter’s life.

She said: ‘The day went really well. To have so many people turn up – and to have raise £1,000 more than we aimed to – is absolutely fantastic.’

Lucinda studied at Sparshott College, and then started up her own dog walking business.

Mrs Glassby added: ‘She set it up after finishing at Sparshott College – and there was so much more that she wanted to do.

‘Almost all of her friends from the college turned up to the dog walk as well, which was lovely.’

According to Mrs Glassby, one of Lucinda’s friends from the college left an incredibly touching tribute in a Facebook group set up in her memory.

Angela said: ‘She posted it to the group on the anniversary of Lucinda taking her own life.

‘She wrote about how Lucinda was still with us, and how she will always be in our hearts. It was beautiful.’

As well as raising money for PAPYRUS, the dog walk was about raising awareness of the reasons for youth suicide, as well as making sure people are aware that help is available to them.

Mrs Glassby explained: ‘It is a shame that young people’s lives can be so tough, at an age where it can be difficult to handle it all.

‘It is, sadly, too late for Lucinda, but other people need to know that this help is available to them.’
