BANDS, choirs and music groups from Fareham are being sought to take part in a nationwide event to mark the end of the Olympics.

They will be taking part in the Bandstand Marathon which will happen on September 9, 2012.

The event is organised by national not-for-profit arts organisation Superact, which is aiming to have 500 locations across the UK hosting simultaneous performances as part of the Cultural Olympiad.

Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for communities and local government, says: ‘The Bandstand Marathon is a great opportunity to come together with a real sense of community to celebrate the best of your local area.’

Katharine Lane, Superact’s associate director, said: ‘This really is a unique opportunity for musicians in Fareham to be part of a major national music event and create a musical legacy post London 2012.’
