Society call for trees to be planted by developers during Welborne work

VILLAGERS have urged developers behind a 6,000-home new development to plant trees as they go to prevent construction being an eyesore.

The Wickham Society called for Buckland Development Ltd (BDL) to consider planting trees and further landscaping along the A32 by Wickham during planned construction for the town of Welborne.

In a ten-point letter to the developers – whose outline planning application for the town is currently out for consultation – villagers raised fears that building on the town will lead to an eyesore for drivers heading down the busy road.

The society said in the letter: ‘For centuries, residents of Wickham have been able to travel between Wickham and Fareham with a vista of rolling fields and hedgerows – always an uplifting sight.

‘We recognise that we will lose this view but we appeal to planners to ensure early provision for the planting of trees and landscaping alongside the A32 to prevent the building site from being an eyesore and retaining a rural setting.’
