A section of the A3 southbound was closed for most of today as police investigated a fatal accident.

A cyclist was killed in a collision with a car on the A3 between the Hindhead Tunnel and Liphook shortly after 7.30am today.

Police say the 32-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and that his family have been informed of the tragedy.

The tunnel was closed and a 26-mile long diversion was established from Guildford via the A31 to Farnham, and the A325 south to the A3 at Liss.

Police said the route would be re-opening early this evening.

Anyone who witnessed the crash and has not yet spoken to officers should call 101.
