Southern Trains to be scrutinised in parliament

A MUCH-CRITICISED train operator is set to be scrutinised in a parliamentary session this morning.

Passengers have been affected by Southern Trains cancellations

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), who run Southern Trains, is set to be assessed in a ‘evidence session’ in the House of Commons.

The session will see the Transport Committee hear from both GTR and the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union to discuss a weight of evidence received from Southern Train’s passengers on their recent services.

GTR are set to be assessed on the causes of disruption to the rail network, the actions taken to improve the situation and the issues which have led to the dispute between to the two parties.

The services have been hit by a series of delay and cancellations for weeks because of a shortage of staff and strikes in a row over the role of conductors.

The meeting will be broadcast at Parliament TV and gets underway at 10.05am.
