SOUTHSEA firefighters were called to a small fire that broke out on HMS Illustrious.

The incident on the aircraft carrier at about 10am yesterday was caused by some welding which had overheated.

Navy staff had dealt with the fire by the time firefighters arrived.

Two hours later, Southsea crews dismantled a tumble dryer at a family home in Langley Road, Buckland, after it caught fire.
