A FIREFIGHTER is welcoming the community into Southsea fire station for an open day.

Firefighter Jasper Taylor says everyone is welcome to the community fun day, which will be bigger and better than previous years.

He said: ‘We want to integrate with the community we serve on a daily basis, so it’s good to get people in.

‘They can take a look at the station and enjoy lots of activities and entertainment that we have.

‘Each year the event gets bigger and better, and it’s always a really fun day.’

The Southsea Fire Station community open day takes place on Sunday, September 9, from 10am to 4pm, in Somers Road, Somers Town.

People can look forward to stalls and displays, including military vehicles, birds of prey and a try-dive pool to try scuba-diving.

There’s also a chance to try breathing apparatus units, dunk a fireman in a tank of water, see Chinese dancers and have a go on a bouncy castle.
