FIREFIGHTERS were called to two unrelated incidents in the same road at almost the same time.

Southsea Fire Station sent two appliances to put out an oven fire at a house in Collingwood Road at midnight last night.

A spokesman said the occupiers of the house, two men in their mid-20s, locked themselves out after reporting the fire and firefighters had to gain access through a neighbour’s back garden.

The spokesman said the damage to the house wasn’t serious.

‘They’ll just need a new oven,’ he said.

At 12.45am, less than two minutes after they finished dealing with the fire, the crews were called back to the road to investigate a leaking pipe at a house about 10 doors down.

‘There was a leak in the pipes upstairs,’ the spokesman said.

‘Water was leaking through the ceiling and into the kitchen,

‘We isolated it and turned it off at the stopcock.’
