A PRANK caller wasted firefighters’ time with a hoax call-out to a blaze.

Four crew members from Southsea station’s Blue Watch were called to reports of a fire in a play area between Walmer Road and Cornwall Road in Fratton about 8.30pm last night.

But the call turned out to be a hoax.

Crew manager Alex Hay said: ‘It wasted our time when we could have been attending a proper call-out.’

Southsea firefighters were also called to a car leaking petrol in Claybank Road, Copnor at about 10.30pm last night. The crew stopped the petrol from spreading and ensured the area was safe.

Earlier in the evening firefighters were called to put out a barbecue fire on Southsea Common.
