FIREFIGHTERS were called to a car fire near Portsmouth city centre last night.

The vehicle was found burning fiercely in Port Royal Street, Somers Town, when a crew from Southsea arrived at around 10.30pm.

One fire engine and four firefighters put out the blaze which had started behind the Strand Motors garage.

Investigators from Hampshire Fire and Rescue are now working with Hampshire Constabulary to determine the cause of the fire.
