Southsea's Albert Road gets into Christmas spirit with lights switch-on

CHRISTMAS in Portsmouth has officially started as its final lights switch-on took place at the weekend.

Albert Road in Southsea was the last area in the city to be lit up and the community came out in force to mark the occasion.

Christmas shopping hours in the street are underway and a show in the Salvation Army Lighthouse added to the festive atmosphere.

Jenny Catlow, chair of Albert Road Traders, said: ‘The event went really well and it was great to see children enjoy it and have a good time.

Joanne Bennington, co-ordinator of the Kings Youth Theatre, added: ‘The event was brilliant and was really well-attended.

‘It was about celebrating Christmas and the spirit that Albert Road has - it was a really good community event.’
