POTENTIAL foster parents are invited to an event at Portsmouth’s iconic Spinnaker Tower to find out more.

People thinking about fostering children will be able to discuss any questions they have with current carers and staff from Portsmouth City Council’s fostering service.

There are currently 137 families who foster 157 children through the city council’s fostering service, which has a target to recruit a further 35 foster carers by March 2015.

A city council spokesman said: ‘Entry to the tower is completely free, there is no obligation, you can find out how to change a child’s life and earn up to nearly £500 per week for each child you may foster.

‘Foster Portsmouth is looking for foster carers who are able to provide stability and care for children of all ages.

‘Some will require short-term periods of care, while others will need a permanent loving home where they can grow and develop until they become independent.’

Staff from Portsmouth Adoption Centre will also be on hand to answer questions. The event will run from 7pm to 9pm on September 17.
