Spooky surprise for Southsea street after residents win £25k on People's Postcode Lottery
ONE lucky woman was given a spooky halloween surprise after winning £25,000 with her first ever lottery ticket.
Sheila Cole, 74, was one of four residents of Elm Grove, Southsea who pocketed a share of £100,000 through the People’s Postcode Lottery.
It was a big surprise for the residents who would only have been expecting trick-or-treaters to come knocking on their door on Saturday.
Dream holidays seemed to be on the agenda for the residents with Ms Cole targeting a trip of a lifetime to Australia.
Ms Cole said: ‘This is my first-ever ticket so it just goes to show that you don’t have to play for years to win something.
‘I’m going to use this money to travel first class to Australia.
‘Winning has not just made my day, it’s made my world!
Ms Cole encouraged others to get involved with the lottery after her halloween treat.
She said: ‘I’d say to other people who are thinking of playing just to take a chance!’
Her neighbour Kathleen Smith was just as delighted to get the knock on the door.
The 47-year-old said: ‘This is just brilliant.
‘I’m so pleased for everyone on the street who has won.’
She said that she would look to head off on a holiday, adding: ‘This means my husband and I can get a bit of winter sun somewhere hot.’
Mum-of-one Dorina Tarmure, 48 and her husband Adrian were left ‘shocked’ by the win.
Dorina, who works as a waitress, said: ‘I’m so shocked. I never thought that I would win this much.’
The couple are planning on having a celebration with friends and family.
She added: ‘I’d really like to have a party. I have told all of my colleagues who want to sign up themselves now.
‘I need to have a good think about how to spend the money. Perhaps I’ll go on a nice holiday.’
The fourth winner on the street also won £25,000 but was not available to accept their cheque on the day.
Danyl Johnson, People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador said: ‘I love meeting the winners from Southsea.
‘Halloween is usually a time for tricks but it’s just treats for this bunch.’
