MORE than 170 hardworking volunteers gathered to spruce up a treasured woodland.

Park Wood is a small area of semi-natural ancient woodland opposite The Queen’s Inclosure.

Volunteers included Beavers, Brownies, Cubs, Guides, Rainbows and Scouts – who are working towards their Diamond Jubilee Award badge.

Their parents and volunteers from the Friends of Park Wood group also helped clearing ditches and paths and doing a general tidy up of the wood after a very soggy spring and early summer left it in need of a spruce up.

Gill Bryden, from the Friends, said: ‘The turnout was astounding and a good time was had by all.’
